No, you don't, most of the people who start karate are usually unfit, this will develop over time, the club instructors know this and will teach you accordingly.

I haven't got a Karate suit, what can I wear?
Anything loose and comfortable, to start off with, a t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms are fine. When you are ready for a Karate suit (Gi), this can be bought from the club along with any other equipment you need, or you are free to purchase them yourself from other sources.

Will I get beat up by people at the club?
CERTAINLY NOT! We are a family based club and you will not get picked on, bullied or beaten up by anyone. You will be training with people around your own level and you will find that we are really friendly and helpful at Heyrod Karate.
What is a licence and why do I need one?
To train in any martial arts you require a licence issued through a Governing Body. This licence is renewable annually and entitles the student to train and also carries their Insurance. It also allows the holder to attend Seminars/Competitions/Courses etc. and to provide records of Gradings. Students must have applied for thier licence within two weeks of starting training. Licence fee is currently £20. (Or £15 per person if 2 or more join at same time).
How often do I have to train?
Consistent attendance is essential for the continued progression and development of the student. Two classes a week are fine, however more classes are required as you advance through the Grades and are available for those who wish to train more regularly.
Is Karate suitable for me?
Yes! Karate is suitable for men and women of all ages. It is one of the best ways of getting fit, increasing confidence, meeting and making new friends and also learning a fast powerful and incredibly effective form of self defence. You will learn to use the strongest parts of your body against the weakest parts of your attacker, along with knowledge, technique and speed to defeat an opponent rather than strength and brute force.
Is Karate suitable for children?
Of course! Karate is one of the best activities a child can practice and learn. Along with the level of respect, discipline and general etiquette taught in our classes, the child will learn to accept more responsibilities, become more aware and you will see quite quickly an improvement in their confidence. Add to this fitness and practical self defence techniques and you can see why so many parents enrol both their children and themselves in our classes.
